An East Texas jury’s unanimous $445.5 million verdict for Collison Communications Inc. against communications giants Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. ranks as the largest patent infringement award in Texas for 2025, as compiled by TopVerdict.com. The online journal publishes annual lists of the largest financial recoveries obtained by U.S. law firms on behalf of their clients on a state-by-state basis.
Together with a team from Caldwell Cassady & Curry, led by Brad Caldwell, Chris Stewart, and Justin Nemunaitis, Miller Fair Henry’s Andrea Fair served as local counsel for the October trial, including picking the jury and directing and cross examining experts related to the damages issues in the case.
The case focused on patents covering methods for reducing signal interference in network communications. Defense contractor BAE Systems developed the technology to ensure clear communications on busy networks. Collision Communications acquired the patents from BAE nearly 15 years ago to commercialize the technology in the cellular industry. The jury of seven women and one man issued the verdict against Samsung for willfully infringing on the patents used in mobile devices that rely on the company’s 4G and 5G networks.
